Glutathione S-transferase in marine invertebrates from Langesundfjord
نویسنده
چکیده
Glutathione S-transferase (GST), an enzyme system which conjugates glutathione to a vanety of xenobiotics with electrophllic centres was found dunng the GEEP Workshop m the digesbve glands of the s n d httorina httorea and the mussel Myllus edulis, and in the hepatopancreas of the crab Carcinus maenas GST activity was significantly higher in crabs from 2 polluted sites m Langesundfjord Norway relative to reference-slte crabs but no such differences were found for n~ussels in spite of large differences In PAH and PCB hssue concentrations between the sites In a mesocosm expenment lnvolvlng diesel 011 and copper doslng no significant effects were observed on crab and mussel GST acbvlty though L httorea showed sign~flcantly higher GST activ~ty at the highest contaminant dose Slnce few studles have been done on GST induchon In manne invertebrates it is not clear how dfferences In GST achvlty In crabs from the field sites can be related to the pollutants present

Intestinal glutathione S-transferase activity in flounder Platichthys flesus collected from contaminated and reference sites
Intestinal glutathione S-transferase activities were measured during the GEEP Workshop in flounder Platichthys flesus collected from Langesundfjord, Norway. Though enzyme activities were generally higher in fish collected from 3 polluted sites by comparison with a reference site, the only significant differences in activities between the 3 sites ran counter to the anticipated pollution gradient...
متن کاملPAH-metabolizing enzymes in whole mussels as biochemical tests for chemical pollution monitoring
Enzyme activities related to PAH metabolism, benzo(a)pyrene hydroxylase (B(a)PH), epoxide hydrolase (EH) and glutathione S-transferase (GST), in subcellular preparations from whole mussels Mytilus edulis, were assayed during the GEEP Workshop as possible biochemical tests for pollution monitoring. No response was observed along a field pollution gradient in Langesundfjord, owing to the variabil...
متن کاملGlutathione transferase theta in apical ciliary tuft regulates mechanical reception and swimming behavior of Sea Urchin Embryos
An apical tuft, which is observed in a wide range of embryos/larvae of marine invertebrates, is composed of a group of cilia that are longer and less motile than the abundant lateral cilia covering the rest of the embryonic surface. Although the apical tuft has been thought to function as a sensory organ, its molecular composition and roles are poorly understood. Here, we identified a glutathio...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of Phi class glutathione transferase partial gene from Iranian barley
Glutathione transferases are multifunctional proteins involved in several diverse intracellular events such as primary and secondary metabolisms, signaling and stress metabolism. These enzymes have been subdivided into eight classes in plants. The Phi class, being plant specific, is the most represented. In the present study, based on the sequences available at GenBank, different primers were d...
